To clear up some of the confusion associated with the #twilightYEG fundraiser on 20 May and the #YEGsafetymtg the Friday before it (15 May), we have prepared the following explanations:
Q-is this a fanclub for the Twilight book series or movie?
A-NO, NOT AT ALL!
Q-Then, why in the world is it called #twilightYEG?
A-Because we had to call it something, and we decided to give it a “tw” name. Knowing that the books/movie were going to cause some confusion, we distinguished it in 2 ways.
1-by adding a pound symbol “#”. Those familiar with Twitter will recognize this as the symbol used in “hashtags”. Hashtags are used to identify tweets that follow a common theme. See what’s going on in Edmonton by following the #yeg hashtag. In the sidebar you can see all tweets that use the #twilightYEG hashtag.
2-by adding “YEG” to the end of it to show that this is truly an Edmonton event, and to promote the use of the #yeg hashtag. Plus, we love Edmonton!
Q-What’s the difference between the Friday event and the Wednesday event?

#twilightYEG is a charity tweetup organized by local REALTOR Jerry Aulenbach. The goal for the event is to raise $3000 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. Tickets are $25 and all proceeds go towards the charity.

When: May 20th, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Why: To support local women’s shelters through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and to provide an opportunity for twitterers to get together and socialize. This is a great opportunity for those who are familiar with Twitter to learn more about it and to share their knowledge with those new to Twitter. Plus, there will fabulous door prizes and a silent auction for a gourmet barbeque for 6 at your home by one of Century Hospitality’s chefs!

Here’s the rundown of #YEGSafetyMtg at Lux Bar in support of #twilightYEG fundraising event

In lieu of searching for corporate sponsorship for #twilightYEG we are Guest Bartending at Lux for one evening and all tips generated for our Guest Bartenders goes towards the event. Everyone who attends on our behalf receives a free beverage (you need to present a handbill, email us to find out how to get yours – Events@ZoomJer.com)

Why: We’re combining two events to support one great one. The YEGSafetyMtg is a weekly gathering of tweeters to sit and socialize at the end of the workweek. For this YEGSafetyMtg we’re moving it to LUX. twilightYEG is bringing in three lovely Guest Bartenders to help the LUX staff that afternoon. All tips the bartenders make to go towards the twilightYEG event in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
